- Toyota unveiled a new GR Corolla development car with a vented hood, vented fenders, and a prominent rear spoiler.
- The cloaked hot hatch also has more torque and unique tuning compared with the regular GR Corolla.
- Toyota says that the mule was “born on the track,” leading to theories that it is the newest vehicle in Toyota’s GRMN ultra-performance subbrand.
With entries in a laundry list of major motorsport series and a chairman who occasionally races under a pseudonym, it’s fair to say that Toyota loves building high-octane machinery. And with the Long Beach Grand Prix right around the corner, Toyota has taken the opportunity to show off some new rides from its Gazoo Racing performance division, including a track-focused GR Corolla development vehicle.
Moar Torque!
While Toyota has kept details about the mule sparse, some modifications are obvious even under its geometric-designed red-and-blue camouflage wrap. Aggressive venting can be seen on the Corolla’s bulging wheel arches, and within those wells are 18-inch wheels wrapped with ultra-grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, which are already available on the current car. Oh, and you probably noticed the gigantic rear wing with pointy support spires that casts a shadow on its rear window. There are supposedly changes under its vented power dome hood too, with Toyota claiming that the development vehicle features unique tuning and produces more torque than the 295 pound-feet made by the standard GR Corolla’s turbo three-cylinder.

GRMN Corolla Incoming?
With its track-inspired upgrades, the rumor mill has been hard at work with theories that this test mule might be the latest entry in Gazoo Racing’s even more extreme MN (short for “Meisters of Nürburgring”) subbrand. Prior GRMN models have been track-ready limited editions with substantial upgrades and tuning input from professional racing drivers.

We’ve never seen a GRMN model stateside, as the last two Yaris GRMN models were produced exclusively for Europe and Japan. If the rumors about this new GR Corolla development vehicle end up being true, we just hope that U.S. enthusiasts get a piece of the action.
